Service Department

Rubbish Collection:

  • Weekly Collection: Our service department diligently ensures the weekly pick-up of rubbish for over 8,000 homes in Brook Park.
  • Recyclables: Every other week, in addition to regular rubbish, recyclables are collected from households.
  • Automated System: We pride ourselves on keeping up with technological advancements. Approximately 12 years ago, the service department transitioned to an automated system, streamlining the pick-up process.

Special Pick-Up Services:

  • Bulk Pick-Up: Every second full week of the month, residents can conveniently place bulk items such as couches, nightstands, and mattresses curbside for collection.
  • Wrapping Requirements: To maintain a clean and healthy environment, residents are requested to wrap mattresses and, ideally, all cloth furniture to prevent bedbug issues.

Road and Infrastructure Maintenance:

  • General Maintenance: Our service department is hands-on with maintaining roads which encompasses asphalt and concrete repairs.
  • Catch Basins: These are an integral part of our road maintenance duties.
  • Snow Removal: During winter, roads are cleared promptly for safe commuting.
  • Coverage: With 76 miles of roads under our care, Brook Park's service department is dedicated to maintaining safe and smooth travel.

Park and Playground Maintenance:

  • Comprehensive Maintenance: Our city proudly maintains all parks and playgrounds.
  • Facilities: With 6 ball fields and 12 parks equipped with structures like swings and slides, there's something for everyone.
  • Recreation Department: In line with our expansion goals, the department now includes a Fall Ball League, and ball fields are prepped 2-3 times a week for games.

Sewer Maintenance:

  • Storm and Sanitary: We oversee the maintenance of both types of sewers.
  • Advanced Equipment: A specialized truck is available for cleaning out catch basins.
  • Residential Services: In case of sewer line issues within homes, our service bar provides free services to snake out sewer lines from inside out.

General Information:

  • Awareness: Newer families may not be familiar with all the services we offer. We urge residents to explore these free city services before opting for private ones.
  • Educational Programs: Recognizing the need to educate our community, especially young families, we're working on programs that impart knowledge on essential home maintenance.
  • Affordable Housing: Brook Park boasts of affordable housing options with homes selling swiftly, an appealing feature for potential residents.
  • Responsibilities and Services: Our service department extends its services beyond the usual, handling various city-related services such as road maintenance and garbage pick-up.

Facilities and Infrastructure:

  • Building Maintenance Team: A dedicated team oversees the upkeep of all city-owned buildings, ensuring everything from plumbing to electrical systems are in top shape.
  • City Fleet and Equipment Maintenance: With a fleet of approximately 200 diverse equipment pieces, our mechanics ensure everything from fire trucks to garbage trucks is in operational order.

Snow Management and Salt:

  • Staffing and Routes: For optimal snow clearance, the city is segmented into eight routes, and during a typical snowstorm, around 10-11 people in trucks are dispatched.

Coordination with Cleveland Water:

  • Collaboration: While Cleveland Water is responsible for water break repairs, our city manages the subsequent pavement repair, ensuring seamless services to our residents.

Yard Open for Residents:

  • Timings: Our yard is accessible from April to November for residents to dispose of garbage. It operates Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
