THE CITY OF BROOK PARK RECEIVES AUDITOR’S AWARD WITH DISTINCTION
The Finance Department’s goal continues to be to provide accurate and relevant financial reports to our residents.
Each year the City prepares the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report. The documents are linked below.
The City received the Auditor of State Award with Distinction for our excellence in financial reporting for fiscal year 2022. Our reports have met the highest standard for financial reporting as attested by the “Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting” that the City has received for the past thirty six (36) consecutive years from the GFOA.
PROPERTY TAXES
Property Taxes are assessed and collected by the Cuyahoga County and is based on the county-assigned value of all parcels of land within each taxing district. The County Auditor determines an assessed value, which is 35 percent of the appraised market value of the parcel. This value is updated every three years based on the average price that surrounding or similar properties sold for within the previous three-year period. Every six years, the Auditor revisits all properties to re-appraise the value of each piece of land based on any building additions or major improvements. (Currently, The County is working on its reappraisal for 2024).
For tax year 2023 (paid in 2024), a homeowner in Brook Park will pay approximately 2.12% of market or appraised value of their property. As an example a $150,000 home in Brook Park: $150,000 x 2.12% = $3,180 property tax bill.
Only a small portion of your property taxes go to the support of the City of Brook Park. For every $1.00 of you property taxes paid for 2023, the City receives less than $.07 cents. The remainder of your tax dollars support the Berea City School District, Cuyahoga County, Polaris Joint Vocational School District, Cleveland Metroparks, Cuyahoga County Library, Cuyahoga County Community College (Tri-C), and Cuyahoga County Port Authority.
