Animal Control

Alex Perkins, Chief Animal Control Officer

4 AlexOpt

For nearly 25 years I have been an Animal Control Officer, and have managed all issues related to animals, from public education regarding ordinances and laws, to citizen complaints about invasive animals. I have a passion for helping animals and turned his interest into his profession. In 2000, I began my career in the City of Cleveland as an Animal Control Officer. In 2012 I was hired full-time by the City of Brook Park as the Chief Animal Control Officer after demonstrating my abilities to handle all animal control problems while maintaining a great demeanor with the public. Over the years I have handled thousands of animal complaints ranging from checking on the welfare of animals to vicious animal attacks. I’m also a member of the Cuyahoga Animal Warden Society (CAWS), which promotes continuing education and training.

At the heart of Brook Park, our animal control services offer an extensive range of services to the residents. From handling loose dogs to license checks, trapped raccoons, and more, we're here to support you.

Our collaboration with the Animal Protective League and neighboring cities, Berea and Middleburg Heights, ensures that we stay connected and vigilant in our mission.

Shelter Facilities

The Brook Park animal shelter is equipped to accommodate a variety of animals. Facilities include:

  • Four spacious dog kennels measuring six by four feet, suitable for large breeds like Saint Bernards or German Shepherds.
  • Between 8-12 small cat cages.
  • Microchip reading facilities to identify lost pets.
  • We maintain a non-kill policy, ensuring the utmost care for every animal we handle.

The duration of an animal's stay at our shelter isn't predefined, ensuring they get the time and care they need.
